An original look at the future of Greek industry, by a 4-member team of researchers led by Professor Yannis Caloghirou. The study sheds technical light on some weak points of the Greek industrial structure and practice, which are holding back manufacturing and have to do with the skills required and offered, with administrative practices that continue to be problematic, as well as with the integration of technology where progress is being made, but not always at the desired pace. It includes data from recent years, and offers realistic solutions to the long-standing issues that plague the secondary production sector.
The authors provide an expert analysis of the deep-rooted structural issues that have long held back Greek industry. […] The authors’ vision of transforming existing inefficiencies into pathways for sustainable, long-term growth is insightful and serves as a call for action for all stakeholders involved in shaping skills development and innovation policies.

Nicos Christodoulakis, Professor Emeritus of Economic Analysis,
Athens University of Economics and Business and Research Associate, LSE Hellenic Observatory
[…] The authors make a convincing case for a “parsimonious industrial policy”. They outline on what kind of sectors this should focus, and what instruments it could use. For those concerned about lagging productivity both in Greece and in Europe, it is a must-read.
Aristos Doxiadis, Partner Emeritus, Big Pi Ventures
A decade after the crisis, the Greek economy remains trapped in a low-productivity low-wage equilibrium, and thus faces decades of under-performance relative to other European economies. […] The authors’ call for a new industrial policy deserves to be closely examined and broadly debated by policy makers and the public at large.
