This book includes 45 annotated opinions and a few studies in Greek and in English by Criton Tornaritis (1902-1997), the first Attorney-General of the Republic of Cyprus (1960-1984) and one of the most eminent Cypriot jurists. The writings of Tornaritis, including his opinions as Attorney-General, had a major impact on the legal order of Cyprus and the development of Cypriot law at the crucial (and turbulent) first decades of the Republic of Cyprus. This book brings together selected unpublished opinions of Criton Tornaritis on constitutional law and related issues that contain a strong comparative component and have remained topical throughout the years. They can be of interest not only to the legal community but also to anyone interested in the public life of Cyprus. The editors make a brief introduction to each opinion and explain its relevance then and now.
