This volume is an attempt at identifying the problems arising when an event causes wide scale damage (earthquakes, floods, hurricanes etc.) and correspondingly triggers the interest of the Press and public opinion. The question arising focuses on whether existing rules regulating torts are adequate to tackle cases with a large number of prejudiced persons, whether these regulations should be modified or we should seek help elsewhere, for example in the field of damage insurance or state help.
The author highlights the need for the development of Disaster Law, which aims at preventing disasters, dealing with them and compensating the victims' damage.
